Adult Stem Cells Proven More Useful than Embryonic Stem Cells! Continued research with adult stem cells has revealed what some are calling the "Miracle Cell." Better known as MAPCs (Multipotent Adult Progenitor Cells), these bone marrow stem cells have already been used to transform into liver cells and form new blood vessels in organs far from the bone marrow (in one study, these stem cells grew new blood vessels in mice retinas). Often when we hear of adult stem cells we think of the bone marrow or umbilical cord blood. But research has also discovered the ability of skin cells to behave like immune system cells and even nerve cells. Another study has discovered the ability of adult liver stem cells to turn into insulin-secreting pancreatic cells. This study was able to successfully treat hyperglycemia in mice! Muscle stem cells have also been researched and found to be able to regenerate dystrophic muscle and form nerve and blood vessel tissues. This is just to give you some idea of just how diverse adult stem cells can be. You can read more and see that this information comes from a reputable source at www.stemcellresearch.org.
