Partial Birth Abortion
Ban Held Back by Democratic Senate Leaders!! The majority leader of the Senate, Tom Daschle, Democrat from South Dakota, is pushing the issue of Partial Birth Abortion Ban away from the Senate! The House of Representatives passed the bill already, by a vote of 274-151, with the full approval of President Bush. But now it has to pass the Senate before the President can sign it. The White House stated before the House of Representatives voted, "The Administration believes that enactment of H.R. 4965 is morally imperative and constitutionally permissable to prohibit this very abhorrent form of abortion." In comparison, Senator Daschle stated more recently, "We have so many things on the plate that we're going to have to make some decisions about what merits the highest priority." Daschle's press secretary stated that Daschle supports the ban, but doubts that there is room in the Senate's schedule. Senator Santorum, on the other had believes that, "We should never claim to be too busy to consider legislation promoting the protection of life. There is no need for a long debate--a few hours will suffice. The Senate has debated similar legislation many times." Get more information at NRLC,
as well as information about contacting your senators to
demand that they push forward to pass this bill and send
it to the President!
